This is not a small political manoeuvre. It appears to be a multi-million-dollar project designed to sideline Zimbabweans from determining their own national destiny.

Powerful interests are aligned. Political tacticians are at work. Institutional actors are being mobilised.

But we have seen this before.

In 2007, Western governments poured millions into what was widely understood as a regime-change agenda. The United Kingdom invested heavily. The United States even more so. Yet I wrote then — and I repeat now — that no amount of money can defeat a cause anchored in national conviction.

G40 had hundreds of millions and filled stadiums weekly. I wrote then that no fortune could manufacture a dynasty in Zimbabwe.

Both projects collapsed under the weight of their own contradictions.

Money is loud. But truth is durable.

This pen has stood before well-funded agendas before. It will do so again — not in service of faction, not in defence of personalities, but in defence of Zimbabweans’ sovereign right to their country.

If millions must be spent, let them be spent. The people endure longer than oligarchs.

Let the national awakening begin.

The alleged financier is Kuda Tagwirei, the architects are Jonathan Moyo and Glen Mpani, and the Executors are Justice Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi, Speaker of Parliament Jacob Mudenda, and Attorney General Virginia Mabhiza.

I have a long history with Mpani and Mabhiza, and I struggle to imagine what’s happening with their conscience – which I have always known to be honourable, at least in youth days.
